Mini unveiled the new Clubman earlier this year, but that’s not the end of the new models the company has planned. There is a new Cabriolet, codenamed F57, planned for later this year as well as an all-new replacement for the Countryman.
This new Countryman will be an “authentic SUV” and will hit dealer showrooms during the fourth quarter of this year. What should you expect? Think along the lines of the Mini X-Raid, which has won the Dakar Rally four times. It will be rugged and more SUV-like than the existing Countryman.
The car will be longer by nearly 6″ and wider by just under half an inch. There will also be more cargo space to fall in line with the traditional idea of an SUV. This will be a much more spacious car than the one it replaces. The four-wheel drive system found in BMW’s 2 Series Active Tourer will also make its way into the new Countryman.
Originally debuting in 2010, the Countryman accounts for more than a third of Mini sales, according to Autocar. There are still two more models rumored for next year as Mini shoots for its goal of 6 “superhero” models in its line-up.
