A fresh face and a new name is more than enough to get the presses moving if your name is Porsche. The 2017 718 Cayman follows in the footsteps of its 718 Boxster sibling, adopting the new moniker, and adding a more powerful engine and some minor design tweaks.

The most noticeable tweak not coming on the exterior, but rather, under the hood. New turbocharged flat-four engines replace the aging sixes; 300 horsepower from the new 2.0-liter, and 350 horsepower in the 2.5-liter. That’s a healthy 25-horsepower bump over the previous-generation Cayman.

From a standstill, the base 718 Cayman will hit 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, on to a top speed of 170 mph. Opt for the grittier Cayman S, and 0-60 mph can be handled in just 4.1 seconds, with the engine topping out at 177 mph.

Some other minor tweaks include Porsche’s Active Suspension Management Sport suspension on the S trim, new brakes, and a fresh set of paint from the base model up, just to name a few.

For $53,900, isn’t isn’t entirely expensive without options, but spec it up with S trim and you’ll be staring down the barrel of a $66,300 smoking gun. Deliveries start in Europe in the summer, and head to the U.S. sometime in November.
