Last week we showed you a not-so-telling teaser of Hennessey’s latest world speed record in a bright yellow Venom GT Spyder. Today, Hennessey has officially dropped the details on that speed run…and it’s record breaking, of course.

The Venom GT Spyder hit a speed of 265.6 mph on the U.S. Navy’s Lemoore, California, 2.9 mile runway.

That makes it not only one of the fastest vehicles ever made, but the fastest convertible on the planet, eeking out the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse by about 11 mph (254 mph)—production or not.

The run celebrates 25 years of insane speed—but don’t think the Texas tuner is stopping there. With the introduction of the Venom F5 hopefully in the next year, Hennessey and his team have hopes of hitting 290 mph, assuming they find a long enough drag strip.
