Today’s pickup trucks are going green — some just a bit more literally than others. This is a custom-built wooden pickup truck. It lives in Virginia, it’s made of wild cherry, and it’s up for sale on eBay with current bidding quite low. Internet, let’s find this beautiful ute a home.

According to the seller, the handmade wooden pickup – registered as a 1988 vehicle – was built over the span of two years, piece by piece. Styling appears to have been heavily influenced by the Volkswagen Thing and the Rabbit Pickup, though that might just be a consequence of building with wood.

Underneath its timber exterior lies a somewhat odd assortment of mechanical bits. The truck sources a four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission from a 1982 Nissan, the front frame of a ’76 Chevette, and the rear differential from a ‘76 Datsun station wagon.

It also appears to be quite the celebrity. The seller notes that the pickup was featured in USA Today and on a number of local TV stations in Raleigh, North Carolina. Over the years it has traveled to cruise-ins and car shows from Virginia down to Florida, taking a few awards here and there.
Mechanically speaking, the seller mentions that it runs and drives well with 90,893 miles on the clock, though notes that it does not have power steering, power brakes, or air-conditioning. The seats could use a little freshening up, but that’s a small price to pay for a truly unique ride like this.
