Only Two of These Bugatti EB112s Were Ever Made

Over the last few months, Bugatti and its parent company Volkswagen have attempted to keep details of the Veyron successor very close to the chest. Today though, we aren’t talking about the Veyron, or its successor, but rather one of Bugatti’s older creations: an EB112 sedan just spotted in Monaco.

 

In the early 1990s, Bugatti was hard at work attempting to creating an updated version of the Galibier concept showed off a few years prior. It was a fast, large, four door sedan that caused a bit of a ruckus among auto journalists when it debuted.

 That ruckus was largely due to its outwards appearance. As you can see, the EB112 looks very much like a modified Chevy Cavalier from the same time period, but longer, and with a rather bulbous rear end.

Only two prototypes were officially built and this appears to be one of them. However, according to Bugatti whispers and rumors, the designer, Georgetto Giugiaro built himself a third copy of the car and still has it to this day. As with all Bugattis, the EB112 was extremely fast. Using a 6.0-liter V12 that made 450 horsepower, the EB112 got to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds, and had a top speed of over 186 mph.

 

 In theory. Since the prototype never made it to production, those performance figures were never officially tested.

Seeing as this one somehow made it out of the factory, we’d love to see what it could really do. But this leaves us with a bigger question. How did it actually get out of the factory, and how is it running around Monaco?
