Acer is best know for computers, but the company is moving off your desk and into your car. It is currently developing new technology designed to keep you and your fellow drivers safer when you’re out on the road.
The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (which runs through 2/25) will feature the debut of an Acer headset that is designed to monitor your brainwaves to see if you’re tired. It’s a neat idea, but one that seems somewhat impractical. It’s hard enough to get people to buckle their seatbelts. How are they going to convince anyone to put on an anti-fatique headset to help stay safe?
According to PCWorld, details on exactly how the thing works aren’t yet available. We’re also curious what the headset will do if it does detect tired brainwaves. There are systems in some cars that already determine when you’re tired based on how well you’re staying within the lines. If you’re driving like a three-year-old colors with no regard for the lines, then it warns you to take a break.
Presumably this headset will do something similiar, convincing you to stop driving before you cause an accident. Perhaps a demo will surface at Barcelona and we’ll get a better idea how this tech is supposed to work.
