The news is official as of this morning. The Scion brand is no more. Toyota‘s youth-oriented brand, which launched in 2003, didn’t have the numbers it needed to survive. The brand may be disappearing, but its cars are another story.

The transition is set to begin this August with planned 2017 Scions being rebadged as Toyotas. The popular FR-S is going nowhere, just getting a badge swap. The same is true for the newly introduced iA and iM. Those three cars will live on, at least for now, as part of the Toyota family of vehicles.

You can say goodbye to the tC which will hav a final release series edition and cease production in August. As for the C-HR, which made its big debut only a few months back at the Los Angeles Auto Show, it will hit the market as a part of the Toyota line-up. Those who own a Scion won’t see much of a change and can continue to get service through Toyota dealerships.

There are 1,004 Scion dealers out there who probably aren’t too happy this morning. There are also 22 Scion team members who will have the opportuniy to take on new jobs at Toyota. The company sees this as a step forward, taking what they learned about the youth market and folding it into the Toyota brand. We hope that means cars like the FR-S will continue to live on years into the future.
