BOLD RIDE
Tesla is finally making a car that the rest of us can afford. The new Model 3 is set to be unveiled next month, with preorders opening at a starting price of only $35,000.
That’s a much more affordable price point than the $70,000 Tesla Model S and could finally make Teslas something that have mass appeal. Once you add in tax credits for purchasing an electric car, the Model 3 could come in under the average price of a new car in the US.
Musk has always said that the goal was to make electric cars anyone could afford, it’s just taken him a little time to get to the point where he can build those cars. The Tesla Model X (below) went in the other price direction costing more than the Model S with the most exclusive trims costing over $130,000. The Model 3 finally takes it all back down.
According to NPR, the big reveal for the Model 3 should happen next month with production starting in 2017. That’s plenty of time to set aside a little down payment for a new, affordable set of electric wheels.
