Croatian Company Rimac Bringing Concept_One Electric Supercar to Geneva

When I first read that an largely unknown company was rolling out a supercar with an alt-fuel powertrain, I had deja vu. After all, this week has been littered with news of similar cars coming to Geneva. Now you can add one more company to that list of unknown fuel-efficient performance machines to debut in the weeks ahead.

We first heard of Croatian supercar company Rimac almost five years ago. The Concept_One had a to-the-point name, but big aspirations. Now, the company has announced that the vehicle will go into production. Taking into account how many companies have come onto the scene with vaporware and have yet to deliver anything tangible, consider us impressed–although still skeptical.

An official price has not been stated, but the company did state that it was targeting a price of €800,000, which converts to just over $880,000. It’s a pretty penny, but with just eight units slated to me made, we suspect these vehicles will attract some seriously well-heeled supercar connoisseurs.

 

As for the car itself, it is an electric car, with four individual motors sending power to all four wheels. The motors are located near the center of the axles, and combined, deliver a total 1,073 horsepower and 1,795 lb-ft of torque. Managing all of this power among the four motors is an All-Wheel Torque Vectoring System (R-AWTV), which also functions as an electronic traction control and ABS, and also includes regenerative braking.

The power for all these systems comes from an 82 kWh battery pack, that can deliver 1000 kW during acceleration. Rimac claims the 4,078-pound production version of the Concept_One can hit 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.6 seconds and hit 0-200 km/ (124 mph) in 6.2 seconds. Top speed is a claimed 221 mph. Charging times have not been stated.

It is all wrapped in a a stunning body that is sure to catch the eye. But with only eight planned, count yourself lucky if you ever see one in person! The first chance you’ll have to see the production version of this high-speed electric supercar is at the Geneva Motor Show, March 3rd to 16th.
