James Bond’s Aston Martin DB10 Just Sold for $3.5 Million

.Any James Bond fan would love to own a genuine “Bond Car” from one of 007’s many films, but tonight one lucky fan in the UK can now say they actually do. 

 

One of the Aston Martin DB10 coupes from the 2015 film Spectre rolled across the Christie’s auction block on Wednesday night. Initially the auction house estimated the car would sell for between £1 million and £1.5 million. When the gavel finally dropped, the rare DB10 claimed a top bid of £2,434,500 (about $3,488,000).

There is good reason for the sky high price though. To date, this is the only Aston Martin DB10 that has been offered to the public, one of 10 cars that quite literally were “Built for Bond.” Eight of those cars were extensively modified for specific on-screen roles, while two were spared to be “show cars.” The DB10 that just auctioned was one of the two show cars, and it made its grand debut outside the film’s world premiere.

Beneath the DB10’s skin is a rather familiar craft however, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. It houses a 4.7-liter V8 in its snout, howls to the tune of 420 horsepower, and packs a six-speed manual transmission. All the better for evading Mr. Hinx (Dave Bautista) in his rare Jaguar.

Beyond the rare Aston Martin DB10, the event also featured various props and movie memorabilia offered up by the James Bond cast and crew, which included actor Christopher Waltz’s Spectre gold ring ($46,500), Daniel Craig’s prototype Omega Seamaster watch ($132,500), as well as his Day of the Dead skeleton costume ($141,000). An online auction continues until February 23rd, which features a pair of James Bond cufflinks and Christopher Waltz’s Moroccan lair costume, among other props.
All proceeds from the sales benefit Doctors Without Borders, the United Nations Mine Action Service, and a handful of other charities.
