If you’re name is Bugatti or Hennessey, the battle for ‘world’s fastest’ continues to rage on. But hold up–a new competitor just threw its name into the ring. Apollo (formerly Gumpert) just said it’s going to debut a world record car in Geneva next month. We’ll believe it when we see it.

The press release from Apollo goes something like this: “Today were are still building the fastest road car on the planet, we are and we will always be a force in the restive advance of performance, and for us as engineers, this is reason enough.” Aside from a bit of over-zealous mumbo jumbo, Apollo is touting its new ApolloN as the fastest road car on the planet. But what is it exactly?

No one is entirely sure. With the demise of Gumpert in 2013, new Chinese investors revived the brand just this year, so it’s pretty surprising that it plans to unveil ‘the world’s fastest’ car already. No word as to whether this apparent new hypercar will be based on the 11-year-old Gumpert Apollo platform (pictured above), or if it will be something entirely new.
All questions will be answered when this new ApolloN debuts in the flesh—hopefully—at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
