Watch the Audi R8 Channel Its Inner Rocket Ship In Latest Super Bowl Spot
The great David Bowie once said, “I’m an instant star. Just add water and stir.” For Audi, the possibility of having an “instant star” in the new R8 supercar is something execs are betting on. So much so, in fact, that Audi spent more than a few millions of dollars for this one ad spot.
In its latest ad for Super Bowl 50, the German automaker is harnessing the celestial energy of the former rock star, and pairing it with the engineering prowess of a Saturn V rocket. And why shouldn’t the 205-mph, 610-horsepower V10 supercar be compared to a rocket.
The ad, dubbed “The Commander,” shows a retired astronaut reliving the glory days of his journey to the stars. While he likely will never find himself on another space-bound flight, the next best thing is to get behind the wheel of a new R8—at least, according to Audi.
We can’t discount that a 3.2 second 0-60 time is definitely impressive, but it has nothing on a rocket.
