For $162,000 and change, you could buy a brand new Audi R8 with 540 horsepower and a snarling V10. That’s not exactly what one would call ‘cheap.’ Luckily for you, Audi wants to sweeten the deal with a more affordable version, relatively speaking.

The folks at Autobahn.eu (allegedly) managed to get their hands on a very confidential Audi product schedule going into 2018. Aside from a few small adjustments in the next two years—most of which we already know—the product plan shows a V6 version of the R8 scheduled for 2018. That should have some Porsche owners shaking in their boots.

There aren’t a ton of rumors to go by, but one would assume the lighter, more efficient R8 V6 would come strapped with turbos, fitted with rear-wheel-drive, and pump out somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 horsepower. That would put it directly in competition with cars like the F-Type, Corvette, and Porsche 911.

We won’t know how true any of this is until Audi sends out a confirmation, but it’s an interesting plan, and one that we’d like to see come to fruition, that’s for sure.
