Chevrolet Literally Wants You to Track Your New Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro SS is a car you simply can’t resist taking out on the track. It’s got 455-horsepower and one of the meanest V8s money can buy. The risk, though, is that you’ll void your warranty and be stuck with a hefty repair bill if something breaks. According to GM, you’re covered so don’t worry.

 

Speaking to Motor Authority, Camaro Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser said, “If you’re not modifying your car and you take your production car to a track day and you have an issue with one of your parts, it’s covered under warranty.

 That’s pride of craftsmanship that we know it will stand up to track use.” The caveat is this only covers V8 Camaro SS models, not every Camaro.

The key part to pay attention to in that statement is that you can’t mess with the car by making modifications and still expect GM to honor the warranty.

 

 Oppenheiser went on to say that they can tell when things have been changed and that modifications will void your warranty. Leave your Camaro alone, however, and you’re covered.

 

As for exactly which modifications will void that warranty, GM hasn’t released specifics. Messing with the ECM calibration will probably do it, but will certain tires and brakes void the warranty, too?

Expect the specifics from GM to detail exactly what you can and can’t change if you want the warranty on your Camaro to hold.
