BOLD RIDE
The 200 mile per hour club. It’s an exclusive group composed of million dollar hypercars, exotic supercars, and bombastic super coupes and saloons. It isn’t exactly the first place you’d expect to find a street legal and normal-looking 2015 Ford Mustang.
Then again, this isn’t your average Mustang. Rather, it’s called the Mustang HP700 and it’s the end result of Hennessey Performance’s latest muscled-up package for the venerable Ford. With 717 horsepower under the hood, it’s an absolute wrecking ball, but does it have enough oomph to join the vaunted 200 mile per hour club?
Sadly, no – it fell just five miles per hour short. But one thing is for sure, that Mustang is cooking!
The dizzying run at the 200 mph barrier took place at Continental Tires’ proving grounds in Uvalde, Texas, with none other than company founder and CEO John Hennessey behind the wheel of the supercharged ‘Stang. A heady 632 lb-ft of torque helped get the Mustang up to cruising speed, but it didn’t come into play when Hennessey hit the limiter searching for those last five miles.
Fear not though, we doubt this is the last we’ll see of John Hennessey and his supercharged Coyote V8. Zero to 60 mph is handled in 3.6 seconds, and the quarter mile dispatched in 11.2 seconds. Hmm … anyone up for a Dodge Hellcat vs. Hennessey Mustang drag race?
