Live Your NASCAR Fantasy with Cale Yarborough’s Hardee’s Stock Car

BOLD RIDE

Nascar Stock Car Auction

At one point in all our young lives, we had all hoped to grow up to be a NASCAR driver. Turning left and wearing a helmet never looked so good. While most of us will never achieve that dream, now you can get behind the wheel of a stock car that drove some of the most iconic tracks around.

Dubbed the “Hardee’s Special,” this real-life 1988 Oldsmobile NASCAR cup car is headed to auction in Santa Monica with a fresh from the pits look. Even better, it’s hitting the block with no reserve.

To give a bit of a back story; this car in particular was driven by legendary racer Cale Yarborough. He managed an amazing 83 victories between 1957 to 1988. In 1987, he got behind the wheel of the Hardee’s stock car you see here, and managed two top five finishes in 16 races between ’87 and ’88.

This was the first stock car to sport the new Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme design. And while it didn’t find a whole lot of success on the track — it even wrecked in its last race — it is an amazing piece of memorabilia for any racing fan.

The car was fully restored in 2013 by Rhine Enterprises, has a 600-horsepower V8, and wears the identical livery from the 1988 Firecracker 400 in Daytona. It’s hitting the block on July 17 in Santa Monica with no reserve. Estimates have it going somewhere between $60,000 and $8,000, so head over to Auctions America if you’re interested.
