If you’re a car buyer, the decision between hatchback and convertible is a tough one. On one hand, you enjoy the usability and efficiency of a hatchback. On the other, you take delight in the open-air freedom of a convertible. But who said you have to settle for just one?

Peugeot just dropped details on the all-new, all-handsome Fractal concept. Bridging the gap between hatchback and convertible, buyers can now (hypothetically) have exactly what they want in one sleek and sophisticated layout. So what is the Fractal, exactly?

Currently, the Fractal is just a design concept slated to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll realize that this isn’t just all show and no substance.

That awe-inspiring design you see isn’t limited to the exterior. Inside, there’s a very futuristic setup of floating seat designs, and what almost looks like a white foam finish. There’s also a central infotainment system that features a very unique layout. But the most intriguing thing about this concept is the way it sounds.

Being an all electric car, naturally, it makes no sound. But due to European regulations requiring electric vehicles to make sound, Peugeot engineers went above and beyond the call of duty. It’s something that’s hard to describe unless you actually hear and see it.

While the sound aspect was the main focus of the car, under the hood there is a 150 kWh electric motor that produces 204 horsepower. The Fractal can manage 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 6.8 seconds, and on a single charge you’ll get 280 miles.

The Peugeot Fractal concept will be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show beginning September 15th.
