So long naturally aspirated V8, it was nice knowing you. This is the new Ferrari 488 GTB, and it’s the first turbocharged V8 Ferrari has shoved in any “entry level” vehicle in the brand’s history. Not that we’re complaining.
With 661 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of just 3.0 seconds, that turbocharged V8 makes it one of the quickest cars the Italian marque has ever built. Top speed is pegged at 205 mph, and a lap around Ferrari’s Fiorano test track will only take 1 minute and 23 seconds.
If it all sounds immediately impressive — that’s because it is. To go along with a new engine, Ferrari fitted an updated version of its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with variable torque management. That goes along with a new exhaust that delivers a “clear and totally distinctive” noise.
With all this new performance, Ferrari gave the 488 a slightly more iconic look, taking cues from the original 308. It features a larger air intake, a new front spoiler, and a mildly tweaked rear, just to name a few features.
The new 488 GTB will make its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show next month. No word on pricing.
