Which is why when the new hybrid 918 Spyder hypercar debuted, Porsche saw it fit revive the historical racing livery once again. However, the company saw the special nature of the Gulf scheme, and therefore relegated the paint to only two cars out of the entire batch of 918. As such, those two cars now are worth quite a lot of money.
The two cars also received a host of custom accents and pieces throughout. The brake calipers were painted by hand to better match the rest of the car. The upholstery was custom stitched, and both the 918 Spyder’s carbon fiber floor mats and key fob have identical piping. The color scheme also bleeds into the hypercar’s custom luggage that’s safely nestled in the front trunk. These two hypercars are loaded with small details like this that set it apart from all other 918’s out there.
In addition to the special Gulf scheme throughout the cars, the two hypercars from Porsche were finished off with the special Weissach performance package. It was with a Weissach tuned Porsche 918 Spyder that the company was able to set a blisteringly fast time at the legendary Nurburgring Nordschleife. The time, six minutes and fifty-seven seconds.
Keeping that in mind, this particular Porsche 918 Spyder finished in Gulf racing livery and the Weissach performance package is now up for sale through DuPont Registry. When new, a standard Porsche 918 Spyder cost $845,000 from the factory. With all these customizations and it being only one of two, it’s safe to say it cost the original owner well into the seven-digit arena.
Dupont Registry hasn’t released how much the owner is asking, but it is most likely a truly astronomical number.
