2016 Chevrolet Volt Profile

The 2016 Chevrolet Volt was named the 2016 Green Car of the Year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, pulling off a feat no other car has managed. This is the first time a vehicle has ever won this award in two successive model generations.

The award was given to recognize improvements in the car over from its sporty design to its new motors to its increased range. The Volt is now powered by a more efficient 1.5-liter engine generator and has a range of 420 miles.

According to Detroit Free Press, the Chevy Volt beat out the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic, Hyundai Sonata, and Audi A3 E-Tron for the honor. This second-generation of the Volt went on sale this Fall. It’s capable of driving 53 miles on electricity alone. This beats Chevy’s initial estimate of a 50-mile electric range.

The first time the Volt received this award was back in 2011 so it has been five years since the car was originally honored. With the impressive competition in the field this year, the Volt’s title of Green Car of the Year is quite an achievement.
