The Hennessey Venom GT has a 7.0-liter V8 with 1,451 hp making it an impressive car. You might think they couldn’t top that, but company founder John Hennessey is mulling over the possibility of building a 1000-hp electric hypercar.

According to Top Gear, the Texas-based tuner/carbuilder confirmed the news during an interview at SEMA. He said that they’re looking at doing something electric and are simply waiting for batteries to become lighter and have a larger capacity.

Weight and size are key considerations in a hypercar, so battery technology needs to get moving if we’re going to see 1000-hp electrics become real. As for the possibility of some kind of hybrid, don’t hold your breath waiting for Hennessey to produce one. They’re leaving that to the folks at Ferrari and Porsche and focusing on pure electric.

Before an electric hypercar, Hennessey has to finish up the Venom GT’s successor, the Venom F5. Its specs won’t be released until after the Bugatti Chiron is made public. This should give them time to beat Bugatti’s number and keep its line of impressive cars at the head of the pack.
