The world isn’t completely happy with Volkswagen at the moment. Dieselgate has left a sour taste on the tongues of consumers, and distrust in the mind of media—but that doesn’t mean Volkswagen won’t be trying to win them back. Maybe this sports car is a good starting point.

It’s called the GT Ge concept, and it was designed and developed by transportation design graduate, Eljesah Shala. It was part of a thesis project, sponsored by Volkswagen, as a vision of what could be in the near (or distant future).

The car is based on the current GTI, heralding back to concepts like the Vision Gran Turismo and GTE Sport. You’ll notice it doesn’t exactly look like a GTI, but the more aggressive profile is part of the approach. Along with the streamlined new body comes a set of C-shaped LED headlights and an extremely unique rear end.

Given this is a concept of the future, the powertrain would likely be fully-electric, or some variation of hybrid electric. Whatever the case, it’s stunning, and if Volkswagen wants to win back buyers, this might be the place to start.
