When you’re the lead singer of a Grammy Award-winning rock band, driving a sleek custom car simply comes with the territory. At least, it does now for Dan Reynolds, frontman of the Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons.
According to Bodie Stroud Industries (BSI), Reynolds came to the shop with the idea of building a custom ’67 fastback in the style of the Eleanor Shelby GT500 (à la Gone in 60 Seconds fame) with the only stipulation being it had to be a suitable daily driver.
Everything else was up to Stroud; talk about a good starting point.
Little by little, the donor ’67 fastback (pictured above) has been morphed into a more modern thoroughbred, and while we can’t show you what it looks like, we can tell you what “Demons” hide underneath the hood.
BSI tells us a modern Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V8 lives under the bonnet, and it comes fitted with a potent Roush supercharger, kicking out 597 horsepower and 509 lb.-ft. of torque to a Strange nine-inch rear end. A custom-built Magnaflow exhaust finds a home in the Mustang too, providing some backup vocals for Reynolds as he cruises the open road.
Additional kit includes a custom four-link rear suspension, big Wilwood brakes at all four corners, Recaro seats, a Kenwood stereo, and a set of slick American Racing wheels.
“I’ve dreamt of having a ‘67 Mustang since I was young,” says Reynolds. “Bodie was absolutely the best man for the job. I can’t wait to see what he does with this project. I feel like a little boy on Christmas Eve.”
Looking to check it out too? The episode airs on Friday April 1st.
