There’s usually little fanfare and hoopla for the least expensive car in a company’s range. Then again, when said company is McLaren, even its base model knows how to pull a crowd. This is it.
It’s called the McLaren 570S and it’s the firm’s new sports car rival to the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8. It also marks the first of three models in McLaren’s new three-structure hierarchy. At the top there’s the P1 and P1 GTR in the ‘Ultimate Series’. In the middle you have the Asia-only 625C, 650S and 675LT ‘Super Series’ cars. Lastly, the 570S fills the bottom ‘Sports Series’ rank and is rumored to be joined by a drop-top Spyder variant and a track-oriented ‘Long Tail’ version. This is all great news.
The McLaren 570S is slated to officially make its debut on Wednesday at the New York Auto Show, however Carscoops noticed that these photos found their way onto the Interwebs early via France’s Le Figaro newspaper. For argument’s sake, this might not be the production version of the 570S, but all signs suggest that it is.
What isn’t up for speculation is the hearty 570S powerplant. McLaren recently confirmed, in line with the rest of its naming system, that the 570S sports car will come to market toting 570PS (or 562 horsepower).
It will develop those ponies utilizing the firm’s ubiquitous twin-turbocharged V8, albeit a detuned version. The car is also pegged to receive the same carbon fiber monocoque underpinnings of its bigger brother, the 650S.
In terms of visual impact – let’s just say McLaren’s styling department didn’t skimp on its entry level. The 570S fascia emulates that of its bigger brothers, and the rear taillights give a nice nod to the heady P1 hypercar. Stay tuned for more on the 570S closer to its official reveal.
