Why Does the Lincoln Continental Concept Look So Uninspired? [w/Poll]

Lincoln Continental Front

I’ll be the first to say that I like the way Lincoln currently designs cars. Big and beautiful and ticking all the right boxes for the American luxury segment. But I have a problem with the new Continental concept: what happened to the design? It’s like Lincoln designers just forgot what to do.

I know a lot of you aren’t fans of Lincoln’s current elegant design cues. Though, I’m not entirely sure why. When you look at a car like the MKZ, it definitely stands out in a crowded space of Audis and BMWs. I think it’s beautiful, whether you agree with me or not.

So the idea of ditching the wing grille and killing a lot of lines on the Continental concept is kind of confusing to me. Now it just sort of looks like every other big luxury sedan with a tiny bit of American flair. Seriously, it’s like the Kia K900 and Jaguar XF had a big American baby.

And the blase design cues don’t end there. The back end is very uninspired, but even more intriguing, it’s nearly identical to the Audi Prologue concept. Albeit with a little more subtlety.

Lincoln Continental Comparison 2

Maybe I’m having a knee-jerk reaction; maybe it looks better in person— but something about the Continental just doesn’t do it for me. I’m not sure why Lincoln is afraid to keep designing pretty cars— that’s the last thing it should be doing. This is America for christ sake, Lincoln, design something!
