This Mercedes Pickup is Either Awesome or an April Fools’ Joke

Yeah yeah, I get it, April Fools’ Day is right around the corner. And every year automakers do something to mess with the masses — though, this Mercedes midsize pickup is actually cool enough to be real. Which it might be.

The sketch you see here comes straight from Mercedes-Benz, and while I still haven’t ruled it out as not an April Fools’ joke, Mercedes says it will come to market by 2020. The goal is to aim it at markets in South America, Australia and South Africa, because terrain.

“The Mercedes-Benz pickup will contribute nicely to our global growth targets. We will enter this segment with our distinctive brand identity and all of the vehicle attributes that are typical of the brand with regard to safety, comfort, power trains, and value,” said Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the board of management.
Details on the project are still slim (if real). But I can definitely see this thing in the Mercedes lineup— they did build the 6×6, after all.
