Someone Paid a Crazy Amount for the New Ford Focus RS (Which Went to Charity)

$36,605 is about how much a brand new Ford Focus RS will cost you, not including delivery and dealer markup. Given the hype, it’s a car that definitely seems worth the factory price. But would you pay 15 times the normal amount just to say you had it before anyone else? Someone did.
 

At the recent Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, one lucky, crazy owner snatched the new Ford Focus RS off the stage for $550,000. Of course, all the proceeds went to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Still, that’s a lot of scratch for a car you can pick up for under $40,000 from your local dealership.

For that $550,000, said lucky owner will get the same 2.3-liter, 350-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 350 lb-ft torque you’ll find on any Focus RS. He’ll also get the same standard all-wheel-drive system and a set of 19-inch Michelin Super Sport Summer tires.
 

If you’re willing to wait a few months, you can pick up a new Focus RS (if you’re lucky), without having to dish out the cost of a house for it.
