This is the big one, folks. After days of waiting, plenty of sleepless nights, and a few vague teasers— this is your first full look at the Koenigsegg Regera hypercar. And it is a monster.
Aside from the handsome profile, the car features an advanced hybrid system that pumps out a mind-boggling 1,500 horsepower. The batteries alone produce as much power as a Challenger Hellcat (around 700 horsepower), while the 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 does the rest.
To give you a better idea of how fast this thing is, it can hit 248 mph in less than 20 seconds. Not even the LaFerrari or Porsche 918 will hit 200 mph in that time.
With the Koenigsegg Direct Drive hybrid system, energy losses are reduced by 50% compared to other hybrids. With what’s essentially a single speed transmission, the final ratio is fixed and there is a locking hydraulic coupling between the crankshaft and the prop. The Regera also weighs in at only 3,589 lbs (1,628 kgs), making it relatively light in comparison to some of it competitors.
But it isn’t just about pure performance, oh no. Inside you get Apple CarPlay, 3G, WiFi and a camera. One of the fastest cars in the world, as well as one of them most advanced. Koenigsegg is calling it a “luxury megacar alternative” in comparison to the rest of the supercar lineup.
One thing’s for sure — Koenigsegg really outdid themselves this time. Only 80 Regeras will ever hit the street, at a cost of around $1.9M each. But if you don’t have that much cash, you can catch the Regera and the upcoming Agera RS on display at the Geneva Motor Show.
