2016 Ford Focus RS Will Have Even More Power, Stall Recovery Tech

After months of speculation, and a parade’s worth of rumors, the Ford Focus RS figures are finally out for real. Buy a brand new, 2016 Focus RS, and you’ll be getting 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft torque. Volkswagen Golf R owners be damned.

 

The 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine under the hood is definitely a performer. The a low-inertia, twin-scroll turbo packs a punch of 23.2 psi at peak boost. The system also makes use of a new intercooler, a low-restriction intake manifold, and the cherry on top being the performance exhaust. But that’s not even the most interesting part.

The new Focus RS features a first-ever stall recovery feature. What is stall recovery? Rather than having to manually restart the engine after a stall, simply press the clutch and it restarts it for you. No need to shift the car into neutral either. It’s a feature ford engineers are pretty excited about.

 

“We knew we wanted to have stop-start technology on the RS,” said Focus RS engineering and vehicle manager Tyrone Johnson. “We said, ‘What if [we] went one step further and controlled for engine stall at launch using the same technology?"

Pre-orders for the Focus RS have already begun, with production expected to officially begin later in the year.
