Steve McQueen was the star of the 1971 film Le Mans, which is arguably one of the best racing films ever produced. In the movie, McQueen played American driver Michael Delaney and took a pre-race visit in a Porsche 911T to the scene of a fatal racing accident from a year earlier. Now that Porsche is going up for auction.

Once filming finished in December 1970, McQueen was set to keep the car and have it sent to the United States. This 1971 Porsche 911T was purchased by CBS Solar Film Studios which was McQueen’s personal production company.

The car was purchased from Swiss driver Jo “Seppi” Siffert who twice won Le Mans. He was also the driver of the car during the film after McQueen was prohibited from driving due to insurance issues. He provided a Porsche 908, Porsche 917 (pictured below), and a whole bunch of sports cars that were used by the crew during the shoot.

According to Christie’s, McQueen famously had an affair with Elga Andersen and his production company promised her the Porsche 911 in October of 1970. The car has since been passed down and sold and comes with a scan of the original document from Siffert to Andersen. The expected price when it goes up for auction on November 4 is between $285,955 and $400,337.
