Plenty of you folks out there have a love of working on your own car. If you didn’t you probably would not be on this site! Spending a whole weekend tinkering away on that ride and nursing it back to driving condition is a great pastime, but it’s got nothing on these folks bringing derelict trucks back to life!
Classic car insurer Hagerty cooked up the “Swap Meet to Street” challenge and for most mechanics, it would be quite the undertaking. The challenge was to make a jalopy drivable in just 95 hours with nothing but a pile of parts and tools from your local auto supply store.Hagerty wheeled out the cab of a 1946 Ford pickup truck and provided the automotive experts with the supplies. That team consisted of writer and hot rod-builder Tara Hurlin, analyst and electronics expert Matt Lewis, parts supply specialist Devin Rekow, and finally Hagerty client relations specialist and vintage rally driver Brad Phillips. Impressively, they found all the parts at the famous Hershey Automotive Swap Meet, and built the truck for less than $10,000. And you can see the final phases of the project here:
Once they completed the truck, they drove it from their makeshift workshop at Hershey back to Hagerty’s headquarters in Traverse City, Michigan—a journey of 700 miles!
