The Dodge Viper Could be Axed After 2017

It was in 2013 that we saw the all-new SRT Viper debut at the New York International Auto Show. Then just this year, Dodge debuted the hardcore Viper ACR (which is as insane as it looks). But while Dodge seems to be rolling out new Vipers on command, the lovable supercar may only last another two years.

 

According to Blipshift, citing FCA/UAW contracts posted by The Detroit News, the Viper will be “built out” in 2017 with no plans of a version after the fact. Considering the factory in which it’s built, Connor Avenue, has been on the verge of shutting down for years, the end of Viper production could be the final nail in the coffin to close the plant for good.

It’s definitely sad news for enthusiasts, but Dodge hasn’t been selling as many Vipers as hoped. Only 49 Vipers were moved in September, and even less, 40, in August. Coming off a more successful summer months (63 sold in July), August and September sales have been dismal, to say the least.

 

FCA hasn’t confirmed the rumor of the Viper’s demise, but we suspect it’s only a matter of time before everyone’s favorite snake leaves the market for good.
