It was powered by an all-aluminum 1.8-liter engine that was specially tuned for 195 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. In its day, the Acura Integra Type R had one of the most powerful 4-cylinder engines available in the U.S. Its VTEC engine was first used in the Acura NSX and provided plenty of performance at any engine speed.
The Type R had high-compression, low friction pistons, high performance camshafts and valve gear, large diameter throttle body, and a high-flow intake manifold and exhaust. It also featured a close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission with a heavy-duty clutch to handle all that power. This car was made to be at home on the road and the racetrack.
There were 15-inch aluminum wheels with increased offset and a 5-bolt lug pattern along with Bridgestone Potenza RE10 tires similar to what was on the NSX. They also got rid of 33 pounds compared to the Integra GS-R. Its looks matched what was under the hood with a front chin spoiler, rear wing spoiler, sport-style seats and carbon-fiber style touches on the instrument panel. All these pieces came together to make what many feel is one of the best front-wheel-drive performance cars ever built.
