Honda Civic Type-R Concept Has Us Reaching For Our Checkbooks

BOLD RIDE

For the first time ever, Americans will be able to experience the joy that is the Honda Civic Type R. Slated for a 2018 release date, the Type R will ride on a new global Civic platform, and hopefully wins back the hearts of enthusiasts everywhere.

Problem is, we still don’t know what the new Type R will look like. But thanks to some clever rendering artists over at CivicX.com, we have a better idea as to what we can expect come 2018. And it has us reaching for our checkbooks.

Starting off with an aggressive fascia reminiscent of the Civic Concept we saw in New York, the aggressive looks don’t stop there. New wheels, angular side skirts, and a massive rear wing to keep it all on the ground. It’s about as aggressive as the new Civic can get.

But the real question is one of power. Under the hood, we can expect near 300 horsepower (or more) from an American-built 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Power will be sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, but don’t worry, the new front-suspension design and adaptive dampers will virtually eliminate torque steer.

While we won’t see a new Type R for another three years, this concept has us excited about the future.
