BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept Looks Wonderfully Weird

BOLD RIDE

BMW 3.0 CSL Concept

Literally the second this car hit the web, fanboys and Internet websites alike were bashing it for the way it looked. Yes, it’s definitely a radical design, and yes it’s kind of weird— but I don’t think it’s a bad looking car. I think it’s a perfect homage to the original, actually.

The front is pretty polarizing, I’ll give it that. The kidney grilles are eccentric and the lightning bolt headlights give it a very immature feel, which is not something you’d expect from BMW. But good news, it only gets better from there.

The body mixes the iconic angular look of the original with a modern and sophisticated design. The rear fenders are properly flared, and the roof and rear wing mold seamlessly together in a blaze of yellow glory. It’s definitely a concept with all these radical angles and bright colors.
The interior is more modern than it is classic. The seats are beautifully sculpted in black leather and green stitching, and the dash looks like something out of the film I, Robot. And there’s something so charming about the semi-cicular steering wheel.

Putting the two side by side, the commonalities are apparent. Those massive flared fenders, those polarizing front ends, and not to mention the dual rear wings. It’s pretty clear to see that designers took heavy inspiration from the original.
The 2015 concept is on display now at the Concorso d’Eleganza.
