Listen to the 800HP Hennessey Camaro Z/28 Exercise its Pipes

BOLD RIDE

Beneath the track-tuned Camaro Z/28 lives a monster – a free-breathing brute wielding 7.0-liters, 505 horsepower, and more than enough torque to vaporize tires in a hurry, if so inclined. With the addition of a supercharger, the lightened Z/28 could be made more powerful, but Chevrolet doesn’t make one, and therein lies the rub.

Fortunately for the devotees of high horsepower, blown Z/28s are among us – this one from Texas’ Hennessey Performance – and it would appear the 2015 Camaro Z/28 is handling the supercharger and its added ponies well.. all 800 of them. Take a listen.

There are a few likely reasons as to why the Camaro Z/28 foregoes a supercharger in standard form, varying from price point to added weight. There’s also its big bad brother, the Corvette, to which a pace and power-matching Camaro might be bad for business.

Under the hood of Hennessey’s Camaro, the LS7 V8 now mates to a 2.9-liter supercharger, and features ported heads, new camshafts, forged pistons and rods, high flow injectors, and a number of other performance bits. The end result is a searing 800 horsepower at 7,000 rpm, which as can be heard in the video, is met with a chorus of V8 anger. If that’s not enough, Hennessey even markets a 1,000 horsepower version, and it sounds brutal.
