2016 Chevrolet Camaro Drops Its Top in Detroit

BOLD RIDE

Chevrolet has dropped the top on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and damn if it isn’t stunning. Pictures released today show a vehicle that looks even better with its top off — not to mention it was pretty fantastic to begin with.

Chevrolet made the right move going with a hard tonneau cover for the 2016 Camaro Convertible, which will have a canvas top. It creates smoother lines for the car with the top down. Also, the absence of the top somehow makes the Camaro look that much more aggressive from the front.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is going to have some first-in-its-class features. That’s in keeping with GM’s stance of, “We’re looking at you, Ford Mustang,” which is really its only competition until the Challenger gets a ragtop option.
The Camaro Convertible will feature a fully automatic operation with latches that automatically release and secure the top; opening or closing at speeds up to 30 mph; remote opening with the key fob; and, the hard tonneau cover.

Sure, it would have been great if the new Camaro convertible had a hard top, but it wasn’t going to happen for weight savings and cost reasons. Its weight loss of 200 lbs. over the previous generation would have been most likely eliminated with a hard top.

Now for the bad news. You’re not going to be able to buy the Camaro Convertible until the dead of winter: the ambiguous “early 2016.” Just make sure to buy a coat and some mittens to go along with it.
