US Ferrari LaFerrari Hypercars Recalled Over Headrest and Tire Sensors

BOLD RIDE

It goes over 217 mph, summons 950 horsepower, and claims the fastest lap of any street-legal car ever to attempt the Ferrari test track. By all accounts, the Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar has earned legendary status in quite a short amount of time.

However, it would appear its headrests didn’t earn legendary status with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to a recent bulletin, Ferrari of North America will recall around 85 LaFerrari vehicles from 2014 and 2015 because of headrests that may not comply with federal standards.

The affected hypercars are said to have L32 seats with headrests that NHTSA says may not absorb the required amount of energy in a crash. The release states Ferrari will notify owners and replace the headrests for free.

A second recall was also announced for the LaFerrari involving an incorrect vehicle warning message, which in the case of a tire puncture, reads “Low Tyre Pressure-Max speed 50 mph.”

This apparently fails compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for tire pressure monitoring systems. Ferrari dealers will update the system free of charge and in the process that message will now change to “Low Tyre Pressure-Do not proceed.”
