The new 4-cylinder Camaro is fun, sure. The V6 is pretty potent too. But you’d be crazy to not lust over what Chevrolet just unleashed unto the word: a 640-horsepower middle finger in the form of the Camaro ZL1. Hot damn.

Making its debut a few days out at the New York Auto Show, the all-new Camaro ZL1 sports a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and the aforementioned 640 horsepower and 640 lb-ft torque. If you’re keeping track, that’s 60 more horses and 84 more lb-ft of torque than the ZL1 it’s replacing.

But it’s not just more powerful—it’s lighter too. Which means that from a standstill, it’ll hit 60 mph in just about 3.9 seconds, and carry on to a very respectable quarter-mile time of 12.3 seconds. Not that this Camaro will be all about quarter miles. Oh no, this one can corner (we think).

With power being sent to the rear via a six-speed manual with rev match, or a 10-speed automatic, that supercharged V8 under the hood paired with GM’s more-than-capable Alpha platform should work wonders on the track. Not to mention the new 20-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires; 285/30 up front, and 305/30 at the rear. Hashtag thick.

To top off this newfound performance, Chevrolet designers made sure to make this new Camaro as angry as possible in nearly every way. A more open fascia pairs with a new front lip and side skirts, not to mention Chevrolet’s signature “Flowtie” that we first saw on the outgoing Z/28. The package (as seen here) is finished off in red with a sinister black stripe down the middle to add to the performance aura.

But it won’t come cheap. Look for a price tag of about $60,000 when it goes on sale later in the year. Also look for a helmet to go with it, you’ll need it.
