1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was made instantly famous thanks to “Smokey and the Bandit.” This particular example is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition making it extra special and highly collectible. It’s also going up for auction in April.

Only 7,500 of this car were made with an unknown number still surviving. There was a choice of either a Pontiac L78 400-cid engine with a 4-speed manual or an Oldsmobile L80 403-cid with an automatic transmisstion. This one comes with the manual configuration.

According to Silodrome, the 10th Anniversary Edition included special gray and charcoal paint, a unique interior with embroidered Firebird emblems on the seats, and a wheel package. Even the Firebird received special attention with 5 colors and wings that went over the hood onto the fenders. The look was finished with a black and red striping package, front and rear spoilers, and the first use of the new “Turbo” wheel design.

There were also unique decals, but those were never affixed to this example. If you want a little ode to the ’70s in your garage, then you’ll have your chance when this car goes up for auction through Auctions America on April 1st. The expected auction price is between $35,000 and $50,000.
