Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is bringing a Fast and Furious-inspired cop show to your television screen. He is already an actor-producter on the HBO show Ballers and is now branching out with a car-focused cop show for Fox titled Boost Unit.

It’s not a spinoff of the Fast and Furious franchise, but Johnson said it will be the same kind of intense action that we’ve seen on the big screen. The difference it that this time it will be based on real-life people in one of the underground street units of the LAPD.

They’re describing it as Fast and Furious meets Rescue Me so there will be an element of the action from the movies and the gritty reality of the television show. Stories will tackle the same kinds of real crimes that the LAPD’s unit has to deal with every day like theft, narcotics, terrorism, and bomb threats.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official logline reads, “Boost Unit follows the newest recruit of the LAPD’s Auto Theft Task Force, a notorious getaway driver with a hidden past. The project captures Johnson’s trademark edge and humor as well as the turbo-charged speed of the Fast and the Furious franchise.” The show is in development and, should it go to pilot, we might even see Johnson in a cameo.
