BOLD RIDE
The McLaren P1 is one of the most impressive pieces of automotive engineering currently on the market. The combined output from its hybrid electric twin-turbocharged powertrain is an eye-watering 903 horsepower. From a dead standstill, it can reach 62 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds, and continue on to hit 186 miles per hour in just 16.5 seconds.
Aiding the McLaren P1 in that quest for speed, McLaren has designed the P1 to only weigh 3,411 pounds soaking wet. That, in the realm of new cars, is practically unheard of. Cars are getting heavier with each and every generation, and supercars aren’t immune to that reality.
Yet, for the track-only P1 GTR, McLaren has somehow shed even more weight and brought the car’s horsepower figure closer to that magical 1,000-lb. mark.
If the McLaren P1 is on another playing field when it comes to hypercars, the P1 GTR is in another universe. Only 35 GTRs will ever be built, and each will carry a price tag of $3.36 million. Its hybrid 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine has been tuned to now produce 987 horsepower and McLaren’s engineers lightened the car by a total of 111 pounds, giving it one of the most raw experiences outside a Formula 1 racecar. And now, the first U.S. bound P1 GTR has been delivered.
.
This British Racing Green and Orange P1 GTR was delivered to a customer in San Jose, California and is replete with all the bells and whistles you’d want in your $3 million hybrid hyper track car. We just hope to see this car racing around Monterey and Laguna Seca sometime in the near future, because it would be an absolute shame if this car just sat in someone’s garage for all eternity.
